73119Pfullingen Günther Neske 1973. . Normalausgabe. Sonst gutes sauberes Exemplar (Pfullingen, Günther Neske, 1973). unknown

1886007348Asnières-sur-Seine: Boussod Valadon & Cie 1886. First Edition Thus. Full Decorated Morocco. Near Fine. Gorgeously bound with exquisite illustrations most of which are lushly hand-colored -- they could pass as fully rendered watercolors done directly onto pages. Folio 39 by 30 cm. Unpaginated with text and illustrations on rectos only with leaves of heavy card bound in with tabs. 33 illustrations aquarelles of Beaumont are replicated in the two stories. Some illustrations remain in black and white but most were hand-colored and to a high level. Crimson morocco decorated with gilt borders featuring various floreate decorations and lattice work Rococo in sensibility yet symmetrical. Silk pastedown endpapers. Note that the colophon in the back states the book was created or finished off in December 1886 but the spine gives the publication date as 1887. Both dates are surely accurate. Condition: A few small spots of soil on the morocco. Light scattered soiling and/or foxing -- overall the book still reads as clean. Small stamp in corner of front blank -- back of FFEP -- from Easton Neston Library. As this discreet stamp is the only sign of a library provenance the book has none of the negative associations people would make of ex-lib and we have priced the copy accordingly. 19357180Minneapolis 1935. 7 typewritten pages with manuscript edits and 6 holograph pages recto only in pencil in Wandrei's hand. Light edge wear and a few smudges to the typed pages few corner bends and edge chips to the handwritten pages but generally very good.

An interesting manuscript from Donald Wandrei of the Weird Tales Circle being an unfinished screenplay based on his story "The Monster from Nowhere." The tale was first published in Munsey's Argosy November 23 1935 and later was collected in The Eye and the Finger published by Arhkam House in 1944.

This script consists of about a dozen scenes mostly detailing the shots scenery and characters with a bit of dialogue and lines for a narrator. The manuscript pages are quite descriptive especially in detailing the nightmarish scene where a dead body floats down the road propelled by an unseen force. This theme of existential horror and the blurring of real and unreal are typical of the Weird Tales genre and it is a shame this screenplay was neither finished nor produced.

We find manuscript material from Wandrei to be quite scarce. An excellent item from the Lovecraft circle. . unknown
