Gruber began writing stories for Weird Tales Shadow Magazine The Spider Black Mask Dime Mystery and others publishing some 300 stories for over 40 magazines in the span of about 30 years. Once he caught on as a writer he began turning his attention to novels generally in the Western and Detective Fiction genres publishing more than 60 in his lifetime. This came from the estate of Frank Kelly Freas and was his early working copy for the story. Contains two small preliminary sketches in red ink on the back of the first page one of which resembles the final sketch which made it into the magazine though they are not exactly the same. The other doesn't appear anywhere in the publication. That issue of Weird tales is also included. Great Freas collectible. unknown
