Scarce Newsmap of "China Southeast Coast" from Shanghai to French Indochina with the islands of Formosa and Hainan. At the right edge are inset maps of the vicinities of Shanghai Wenchow Foochow Swatow Canton and Hong Kong. On the verso is a large map of the European theatre of operations centred on Berlin a map of the Pacific area noting the American occupation of Okinawa with a detailed map of this island. Twenty one loose maps with tissue guards printed on sheets 49.5 x 63.5 cm in the original folio title-wrappers the maps with some edge wear and toning but on the whole in very good condition the wrappers browned and stained torn with minor loss at the foot of the title wrapper small closed edge tears now re-enforced with archival material and sound. Lacking the introductory notes by Edward Heawood. The complete suite of maps: an impressive production. The first map is a general map of England and Ireland by an unknown author 1594; nineteen county maps; and a final sheet of miniature county maps printed as a deck of playing-cards. The county maps proper vary in date from Saxton's “Southamtonia” of 1575 to John Speed's version of Norden's map of Sussex dated 1610. A contemporary reviewer dubbed it " a rich cartographical feast" allowing easy access to rare and valuable maps and comparison of maps by different cartographers for the same county. <br>The county maps reproduced include five by Christopher Saxton three by John Norden Philip Symonson's map of Eastern Kent published in 1596 a series of seven maps dating from the early years of the seventeenth century two maps prepared for Camden and two published by John Speed. . Engraved map 40.5 x 27.5; 48.9 x 31.8 cm sheet original folds some browning to the fold and margins two small holes at the central fold without significant loss in good condition. Map issued as a supplement to "Le Lyon-Republicain" one of the great radical daily newspapers in Lyon. The map is after documents by French explorer and trader Jean Dupuis 1829-1912 who had explored regions along the Red River in the hopes of establishing trade routes within Vietnam and China and variously published. This supplement was issued on the eve of the Tonkin War in 1883 so that readers could follow the military movements of the French Expeditionary Force. All four in good condition on lightly-aged paper with slight creasing. ONE: Typed Memorandum. 3pp. foolscap 8vo. Signed over a stamp by Campbell and witnessed by Florence Campbell of Newcastle-on-Tyne. Campbell agrees to teach Langsford 'how to prepare the photographic paper called "Gelatino-chloride glossy printing-out paper" by the same formula and process as he uses and put him in the way to start and carry on a business for himself'. Further to this end he describes five actions he will take beginning with drawing up 'a plainly written copy of the formula along with instructions for the mixing and preparation . stating the ingredients used and the exact quantities required also plain directions how to coat and finish off the paper guaranteeing under a penalty of One Hundred Pounds that such formula and directions shall be in every respect precisely the same as used by him'. He will also give Langsford lessons at his home in Gunnersbury: 'How to mix the formula for preparing the P.O.P. then how to coat and finish off the paper and how to pack it for sending to customers; how to cut up and send away small samples with circulars by post to photographer and others and to be generally and fully instructed in everything necessary to enable him to commence and carry on a business for himself as a preparer of the photographic paper known as P.O.P.' TWO: Typed Receipt signed by 'Leonard Langsford' 17 June 1910. 'Herewith agreement duly signed as promised which I think meets the case. Kindly initial alterations. I enclose also cheque for £6. for plant.' Campbell acknowledges receipt by signing over a stamp at the foot of the page. THREE: Autograph Receipt signed by Arthur Campbell 8 July 1910. Acknowledging receipt of £25 from Langsford 'as set forth in agreement dated June 17th 1910'. FOUR: Autograph Letter Signed to Langsford from '<Kate> Reilly'. 1p. 12mo. Without date or place. Acknowledging receipt of a 'cheque £3/-/- on account'. It is not clear whether Arthur Campbell of Gunnersbury was the son of Alfred S. Campbell 1840-1912 the noted English-born photographer and inventor based in New York and proprietor of Campbell Studios there and in London. Memorandum: 17 June 1910. There are scuffs and wear to the edges and corners of the dust cover as well as the remnants of a sticker around the base of the spine and some light damage there also. There are 5mm and 1cm tears to the top corners of the front and a 5mm tear to the top corner of the back of the dust cover and a black marker scribble on the top corner of the inside front flap. Finely engraved and detailed map of two routes to Pekin Beijing along the White River Baihe from the Gulf of Petcheli and along the Imperial Highway from Jehol and includes commentary locating palaces and gardens type of cultivation "many barges" and "the road shaded by willow trees". Enquanto Camões fundou a língua moderna através de uma epopeia mitológica onde a mitologia greco-latina é sagrada e funcional e deuses como Vénus e Baco interagem diretamente com os navegadores elevando os feitos humanos a uma escala divina Macedo procurou 'emendar' a obra de Camões sob um prisma neoclássico e racionalista realizando um 'processo higienizador'. Como padre e seguidor das luzes Macedo via os deuses pagãos como um erro estético e espiritual.
