ONE: Typed Letter Signed. 31 March 1900. 1p. 4to. 'I bought a gross of balls of Hunter and paid for them on the understanding that I should take them as I wanted them'. He has a rough idea how many he has had and will be 'able to say exactly when I look in my locker'. He ends by asking the firm to refer to Hunter's books regarding the matter. TWO: Typed Receipt signed by Common over two red Inland Revenue penny stamps. 12 May 1900. 1p. 4to. 'Received of Messrs Emmerson & Co. Of Sandwich The sum of £3 . 0 . 0 in discharge of balance due to me by Mr. Ramsay Hunter For Golf Balls not delivered after having been paid for by me'. B. J. W. Hill and Peter Hill in their 'History of Royal St. George's Golf Course' 1987 refer to Hunter as an experienced Scottish professional Green Keeper and Caddie Master and possible designer of the course and supervisor of the work force which created it. Hunter relinquished his business of 'Golf Club and Ball Maker' which he operated from the club in 1900 after which his accounts were handled by Emmerson & Co.
