A good copy with a rectangular patch of fading to front board a bit of wear and soiling to exterior hinges slightly loose fairly large chip to p. 47 pages otherwise intact and very clean offsetting and residue from removed bookplate to front free endpaper. Overall a presentable copy of a classic baseball book. Who's Who in Major League Baseball compiled by the sportswriter Harold Speed Johnson is a directory that includes biographical sketches and statistics for the professional baseball players around the time of its publication. It also includes sections with biographies on coaches umpires statisticians and other figures in the world of baseball. Each biography includes a sepia portrait alongside it. Includes inset of Breknoke with the coat of arms for James Butler Earle of Breknoke and three other coasts of arms plus and early battle scene. FRAMED in Glazed Hogarth Frame. Strong impression with the detail in the engraving clear and black. Frame has a few small chips. Overall in very good condition. Imprint on left- hand corner giving publishers: “Performed by John Speede. And are to be solde by Sudbury & George Humbell”. The maps by J.Speed are "the best known and most popular of all English county maps" Tooley. Despite competition from maps of the English counties by Blaeu and Jansson Speed’ maps were “bestsellers”. The full calf binding has some wear and some marks and light staining it is sound. The endp apers are browning in the margins. The blank preliminary leaf and the title leaf have an owner's inscriptions. There are some marginal fingermarks and staining in places and some marginal pencil annotations. hardcover

Includes multiple coats of arms and a large inset plan of the town of Lincoln. The hand colouring is attractive and bright but there are marks and stains to the edges of the map and a little darkening. There are old pin holes to the corners where one pinned to the wall! To the rear are pages 63 and 64 with the description of Lincolnshire and list of the Hundreds in the county. The decoration of the text title identifies the edition as that of 1676. Centre fold. A monochrome watercolour wih a little added mixed media on light board. The image measures approximately 270mm x 400mm signed to the lower edge. Unframed old double sided tape to the reverse of the board remains a little tacky otherwise in fine condition. Speed was a prolific illustrator of many books both fantasy tales fiction and non-fiction. Lancelot Speed 1860 -1931 was a coastal painter and a British illustrator of books in the Victorian era usually of a fantastical or romantic nature. He is probably most well known for his illustrations for Andrew Lang's fairy story books. unknown
