A scarce survival from Lorenzo Snow’s trial in the U.S. Supreme Court for polygamy under the Edmunds Act where two of his three convictions were eventually overturned as the court determined that the offense was continuous and therefore only warranted a single conviction. George Ticknor Curtis defended Snow and published this edition of his speech himself. Curtis argued that Snow had lived continuously with one woman and defended his right to have multiple “wives†as a matter of religious freedom. This copy with “From the Author†on the top margin of the title wrap apparently presented as a gift from Curtis. For the Author unknown

Other clippings also included are entitled "U.S. Lighthouse Service Marks Birthday Here Aug 10 - 32"; "Our Oldest Lighthouse Herald Aug 12 - 39"; "Lighthouse Service Observance Opened Herald Aug 7 - 19" ; Finally a clipping dated Feb '42 : "Edward Rowe Snow "Defending the New England Coast" A man who knows more about history and legends of Boston Harbor and the Massachusetts Coast than any other person. Mr. Snow has some excellent colored slides and moving pictures he will use with his lecture. He is also the Santa Claus of the light-houses." Hettie B. Ward's name is on the book's half-title page.
