Also present is the quite elusive folding map light and fragile but still in Fine Condition of the route through to the White Mountains showing stations and hotels etc. along the way. A scarce White Mountains map which was usually removed to frame. And. the folding timetable is here as well. A very nice and complete example of this elusive early White Mountains and other Northern areas travel guide. The very scarce first edition of this work.ESTC citation number T71415.Timothy Neve's lengthy criticism of Thomas Phillips' biography on Cardinal Reginald Pole.Phillips' biography on Pole is his major work his aim being to give an account of the Council of Trent from the point of view of a Roman Catholic.Neve's criticisms in this work were expressed in very strong terms from the point of view of the Church of England reflecting on the still fresh break from the Pope.In the third edition of Phillips' 'Life' he replied to Neve's criticisms.Bound without half-title.Two contemporary newspaper clippings tipped-in to the front paste down regarding Phillips and Pole. In a full calf binding. Externally generally smart with some rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the spine and extremities. Faint surface cracks to the spine. Loss to the top spine label and a small label to the head of the spine. Contemporary repair to the tail of the spine. Small cracks to the head of the joints. Front hinge is starting but firm. The Inner Harbour a very scarce poetic anthology written and signed by American poet and the 75th Governor of Connecticut Wilbert Snow. Published by Harcourt Brace and Company in 1926.In the publisher's original quarter cloth with green paper boards in the original clipped dust wrapper. The poet's signed inscription to the front free end paper.Despite holding the position of Governor for barely two weeks as an interim after the resignation of his predecessor Snow was a prominent figure in Connecticut particular for education where he served on Boards of Education for over thirty years. His poetry became popular after meeting fellow poet Robert Frost with whom he became close friends. This particular anthology writing of his native state of Maine and its people and places is an example of his autobiographical poetry. In the publisher's original quarter cloth with green paper boards in the original clipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart with minimal marks to boards. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Minor shelf wear and fading to the spine. Dust wrapper is clean with minimal marks. Missing wrapper spine placed in protective coating. Signs of edgewear to wrapper with the occasional small chip. Faint offsetting to end papers. Poet's signed inscription to the front free end paper.
