Lo scienziato, sulla scia di Galileo, riuscì a sconvolgere a un tempo la matematica, la fisica e l'astronomia. Eppure Newton non fu (come spesso si crede) un eroe della razionalità ma piuttosto, come disse John Keynes, "l'ultimo dei maghi". Uno spirito inquieto, bruciato da una curiosità quasi maniacale che spaziava dalla scienza, alla religione, all'alchimia.
