Gutes Exemplar; Rücken minimal fleckig. - Englisch. - The present catalogue lists and describes all sixteenth-century imprints held by the History of Medicine Division of the National Library of Medicine. A few incunabula previously described by Dr. Dorothy Schullian in her catalogue of 1950 have been included also, as they may well date from 1501 or later. A subsequent volume will list the Library's holdings of seventeenth century items. The rules of entry are those set forth in the American Library Association's Cataloging Rules for Author and Title Entries (2d. ed., 1949), with certain exceptions. First, the names of corporate bodies which have changed are used in the form that was current at the time the work was published. Second, hospitals are entered under the name of the place in which they are located. Third, the form sub-divisions, "Spurious and doubtful works" and "Supposed author" (ALA Rule 31), have not been added to entries. Questions as to genuineness, authorship, etc., are resolved or aired in a note. Finally, no attempt has been made to anticipate the changes likely to be introduced in the forthcoming revision of the ALA rules. In transcribing title pages, recording imprint data, etc., the practice has been to follow, in general, the Library of Congress Rules for Descriptive Cataloging (1949). Lengthy titles have been necessarily somewhat curtailed, but not, it is hoped, to the exclusion of important subject matter or to the detriment of syntax. Accents found on inflected Latin forms have been ignored, but tagged e (for ae) has been retained. All contractions have been expanded. As regards imprint data, such information as is given on the title page is supplemented by that found in the colophon, preface, or elsewhere in the book; any such information not derived from the title page is enclosed within square brackets. The collation of the books is by leaves or pages, as suggested by the book itself, i.e., a book with numbered pages and unnumbered leaves or pages is described only in terms of pages; a book with numbered leaves and unnumbered leaves or pages is described in terms of leaves. … (Vorwort) // INHALT : INTRODUCTION. ------ BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES. ------ CATALOGUE. ------ INDEXES OF PRINTERS AND PUBLISHERS. ------ I. ril.
