Risalendo lungo il crinale della storia e attraverso l'analisi delle cartelle cliniche dell'Archivio dell'ex Ospedale Psichiatrico di San Servolo a Venezia, questo libro indaga le categorie della nosografia psichiatrica tardo ottocentesca che facevano segno alle problematiche relazionali, ciò che oggi viene accorpato nella vasta e multiforme area dei disturbi generalizzati dello sviluppo dello spettro autistico, e la gestione delle stesse nelle istituzioni totali. Ciò che ne risulta non è solo una sorta preistoria dell'autismo, ma una riflessione critica che indaga questa diagnosi come oggetto culturale.

Fore and lower page edges untrimmed and dusty. Dust jacket not price clipped with a few small marks, repaired tear to front, sunned spine and small pieces missing from top of spine. Now protected in a fully-removable transparent sleeve. 286pp. A second volume of reminiscences from the author following on from 'Arches of the Years' in which we visit his Highland childhood, his youth in Scotland, his medical life, yachting holidays, hospitals, law-courts, churches and race-courses. The last chapters tell of his reception into the Church of Rome, his famous law-suit with Dr Marie Stopes and his visit to Lourdes. Very scarce signed copy.
