One side features a handsome colour birds-eye view of Shinkyo with a photographic panorama showing construction in progress immediately below on the reverse a coloured plan text and black and white photographic illustrations. 54.5 x 78cm. A little minor wear and occasional browning a very good copy. This striking large coloured bird's-eye view of the city of Shinkyo the Chinese city known today as Changchun was published in this pamphlet explaining the first "five-year" stage of the project for the planning of Shinkyo. Shinkyo was established by the Japanese in the first part of the 20th century the area having been chosen for its strategic importance. It became a city in 1932. The Emperor Puyi lived there until the end of World War II. <br> <br>This attractive birds-eye view of the planned city shows Shinkyo's broad streets trees and attractive buildings. The planning of Shikyo was influenced by the changes that had been made to 19th century Paris by contemporary American town planning and the Garden City Movement. Today Changchun is a city of over 7 million people the capital of China's Jilin Province and known for its car manufacturing. <br> <br>On the reverse of the map two panels upper right section showing a photograph titled 國都新京建設の全貌Kokuto kensetsu no zenbō accompanying an overview of the planning of Shinkyo and the purpose of the city. Two panels in the upper middle section on reverse of the birds-eye view show a coloured plan of the future Shinkyo. It shows the city located within the nearby region and indicates government residential and industrial areas the race course airport railway lines parks etc. A comprehensive list of names of parks avenues plazas and roads is also provided along with the map. L'A. spiega come gli occhi debbano essere preservati e che si debba avere "moderazione nell'usarli" rivolgendosi in particolare a chi studia e lavora di notte. Bisogna inoltre fare attenzione alle diverse temperature e qualita' dell'aria: gli occhi sono "sempre irritati quando l'aria contiene particelle saline e muriatiche... oltre questi gaz micidiali, la calce, il gesso, l'arsenuico e una massa dis sostanze simili, alterando la purita' dell'atmosfera, nuocono in particolare agli occhi...". Allo stesso modo bisogna prestare cura all'alimentazione: quando i cibi sono "acri, salati e carichi di droghe, riscaldano il sangue e lo determinano verso la testa. Ne' meno nuoce la troppa qualita' d'alimenti...". Quindi l'amore, la passione piu' nociva per la vista: "abbiamo gia' parlato degli effetti della eccessiva perdita del liquor seminale...": tutti coloro che praticano troppo "il giovane il cui ardore non conosce limiti, l'ammogliato di fresco che provoca continuamente piaceri snervanti, il mastrupratore che si sfinisce nella solitudine.... debbono aspettarsi un indebolimento della vista precoce e una totale perdita della medesima...". Seguono molti altri consigli sul modo di preservare gli occhi, un elenco di varie tipologie di occhi. In fine le considerazioni sulle cagioni della miopia o vista corta. Antonio Scarpa nacque a Lorenzaga di Motta di Livenza il 9 maggio 1752. Studio' a Padova dove segui' anche i corsi universitari per la Medicina e Chirurgia laureandosi il 19 maggio 1770; fu allievo di Morgagni e di Caldani. Nel 1805 Napoleone lo invito' a occupare la cattedra di clinica chirurgica e di operazioni chirurgiche. Molte e notevoli per importanza ed originalita' di contenuto sono le opere che Scarpa diede alle stampe. Il nome di Scarpa si afferma come anatomico nel 1773 con la pubblicazione della sua prima nota De structura fenestrae rotundae auris, et de tympano secundario, ma una piu' completa relazione delle sue scoperte anatomiche ed anatomo-comparative sopra l?organo dell?udito. Dal 1800 la sua attivita' va sempre piu' orientandosi ed intensificandosi per la chirurgia; impegnatosi nell?esercizio e nell?insegnamento della clinica oculistica, pubblica la sua opera magistrale sulle malattie degli occhi, alla quale seguono dal 1801 al 1816 altre quattro edizioni. La quinta perfezionata ed ampliata porta il titolo di Trattato di malattie degli occhi ed e' del 1821. A cominciare dalla prima edizione di quest?opera sulle malattie degli occhi, furono fatte traduzioni in francese, tedesco ed inglese.
