In folio (38x24 cm); (1), 10, (1), 11- 55, (1 b.) pp. Legatura degli inizi del novecento in mezza pelle verde con titolo impresso in oro al dorso. Piatti foderati con carta marmorizzata. Un forellino al margine bianco del frontespizio, alcune macchioline di foxing, leggermente più marcato solo all’ultima carta e per il resto ininfluente. Pagine leggermente brunite a causa della qualità della carta utilizzata e per nel complesso esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. 27 magnifiche incisioni anatomiche a piena pagina. Anche le tavole di spiegazione delle tavole sono incise. Edizione molto rara edita da Crepy a Parigi. Importante atlante anatomico che presenta l’opera del celebre medico francese André du Laurens (1558 Tarascon – 1609) che fu primo medico del re Enrico IV di Francia. Figlio di un altro celebre medico, studiò medicina ad Avignone sotto Louis Duret. Praticò, inizialmente, l’arte medica a Carcassonne per poi succedere al grande medico Laurent Joubert alla cattedra di medicina a Montpellier. Alla morte di Jean Hucher nel 1603, per il suo grande prestigio, Laurens fu nominato rettore dell’Università di Montpellier. Dal 1606 divenne Primo medico del re. L’atlante anatomico di Laurens fu uno dei più celebri del suo tempo e venne ristampato fino alla fine del XVIII° secolo. Le tavole dell’opera sono solitamente da Vesalius, Coiter, Valverde e altri, ma è nella descrizione dell’apparato scheletrico del bambino in epoche diverse e nella tavola de “La Medule Spinale” che Laurens diede un importante contributo all’anatomia.
