Bellas impressiones de las dos cuidades. - El pintor y acuarelista inglés Emeric Essex Vidal viajó por Argentina y Uruguay plasmando escenas de la ciudad y el campo. Sirvió en la Armada Británica lo que le permitió viajar extensamente por América Latina. Esta obra viene a ser su diario personal de viaje en el que recoge a través de las 24 ilustraciones pintorescas muchas escenas de Buenos Aires y las Pampas circundantes con comentarios sobre la raza la forma de vida y la economía junto con la esclavitud y la industria productiva. Relata también detalladamente los recursos naturales con especial atención al ganado. Ofrece una visión positiva de la jerarquía racial y sostiene que la jerarquía es buena y los de abajo la apoyan. Vidal llega a describir la institución de la esclavitud como beneficiosa e incluso que los esclavos eran felices porque sostiene: He visto a muchos negar la libertad cuando se les ofrece. Muestra también cuidado al mencionar que el trato a los esclavos es bueno y posiblmente mejor que en algunas de las colonias británicas. The gilt is 22 karat; the paper is 60-pound Eggshell Wove Cream; text is set in 11-point Sabon typeface. The Franklin Library doing what they did best. As New and never read; has been protectively archived since arrival. Page-marker ribbon has in fact never been moved. Please review scans. With "A Special Message to the members of The First Edition Society" by Vidal prefacing the novel with laser printed signature; and of course the scarce separate "Notes from the Editors". A very good copy. A well-illustrated manual covering phototypie a collotype process utilizing greasy-ink on a gelatin plate. We presume this to be Vidal's own copy as it bears his round ink stamp on an endpaper and contains an additional two plates not found in other copies which list only the frontis and another plate. <br /> <br /> Roosens and Salu No. 8290.
