A near very good copy. The Autotype Fine Art Company of London produced a unique form of collotype prints a carbon transfer process. This manual revises and enlarges the 1870 manual by J. R. He is best known for his illustrations of works by Prosper Mérimée Honoré de Balzac Pierre Louÿs. His art has become a comprehensive record of the costumes fashion hair design and furnishings of the Belle Époque as recorded in the Prints Cabinet of the National Library of France. Charming color illustrations of the colorful habitues of the Paris streets -- of those who ply their trade on the streets -- merchants food vendors dog walkers etc. etc. Many of these might be living in the margins of society but they have an outsized role in the theatre that is the city street and in providing a soul to the city. A genre of color plate book popular in the early 19th century that Vidal updated and made his own. 8vo. 24 by 18 cm. 132 pp. 30 hand-colored plates. Plates though printed look as if they were original watercolors. The full morocco binding with Art Nouveau ornamentation was done by a G. Champs. Its beauty is commensurate with the book's contents.
