L'autismo, oggi più che mai, è al centro dell'attenzione della comunità scientifica e dell'opinione pubblica. In particolare si va affermando una critica radicale ai modelli sinora usati, accusati di incapacità nell'affrontare la questione; mentre sono sempre di più gli studiosi che fanno riferimento alla genetica come campo di indagine delle cause prime dell'autismo. Ma la causa genetica dell'autismo è così certa come si dice? In questo volume Ariane Giacobino e François Ansermet illustrano in modo chiaro e diretto i risultati delle ricerche più avanzate. Ne emerge un quadro in cui il codice genetico non sembra in grado di fornire, da solo, una causalità univoca. Al contrario: se è pur vero che ogni caso di autismo è geneticamente determinato, queste determinanti sono variabili, molteplici, eterogenee. Si definisce dunque la necessità di affrontare ciò che costituisce "il proprio" di ciascun caso. E in questo senso la psicoanalisi è cruciale nel mettere in campo la singolarità di ognuno, autistico o no.
