Boards are lightly marked on front and rear, corners are scuffed and worn. Former library copy with stamps to title page and REP. Endpapers are marked and tanned. Paperback lecture pamphlet (pp39-55) - 'Science Lectures for the People, no. 3 - Fifth Series - 1873-4', delivered in the Memorial Hall, Manchester, November 12th, 1873. Covers are a little marked and worn (with musical score pencilled on rear), with one or two small, insignificant chips. Many punctures around spine, which has a long tear at foot. Lower corners of rear cover and final page are chipped. All pages remain sound and clean, and text is clear throughout. TS Used

Tecnologia e scienza si sovrappongono. Un eccesso di tecnologia potrebbe farci dimenticare perché si tenta di perseguire la conoscenza. Questo saggio esprime dubbi e certezze al riguardo. Una lunga pratica di genetica molecolare mi ha rese chiare le difficoltà nel comprendere la natura più nascosta della vita; e, messe a fuoco in questo quadro generale, le difficoltà che si hanno quando ci si domanda: cosa ci rende davvero umani? Per delineare alcune risposte, ho fatto ricorso al mio interesse per il pensiero antico e ad alcune nozioni di genetica e di fisica contemporanea. Il discorso si rivolge a Pandora, a colei che, aprendo il Vaso, ha lasciato sfuggire le nostre domande. E a quei ricercatori che non si accontentano mai completamente dei risultati dei loro esperimenti e dei loro calcoli. Autori: Ernesto Di Mauro.
