197016203JLos Angeles circa 1970s. Original Saturn Award Statue from the Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror Films. Made of heavy cast metal in the design of the planet Saturn with its rings the award also has a resemblance to a flying saucer. This is an early anonymous Saturn Award with an aged and flaked gold finish which has a nice vintage look. It is about 10 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches wide at the ring. The Academy of Science Fiction Fantasy and Horror Films is an American non-profit organization established in 1972 dedicated to the advancement of science fiction fantasy and horror in film television and home video. The Academy is headquartered in Los Angeles California and was founded by Dr. Donald A. Reed. The Academy distributes its Saturn Awards annually to the best films of the genres.
