B.C. Tree Fruits was created to curb "Fruitleggers" from expanding into larger city markets and other places farther afield than their allotted farm-gate sales. Charles Mason Hovey 1810-1887 a Cambridge Massachusetts nurseryman founded the American Gardeners' Magazine in 1834- which became the Magazine of Horticulture- and was a founding member of several horticultural societies throughout New England and the Midwest. A duplicate from East Malling Research Station with their stamps on the front endpaper and a shelf label on the spine but no other markings. RARE. Contains an immense amount of information relating to the industry at the time. There are no copies listed on COPAC and WorldCat lists seven copies in Australia and only one copy outside it at Harvard.
