L’astuccio contiene: 18 grandi panorami in 17 Fogli + 3 carte geografiche a colori, il tutto più volte ripieg. Relazione dell’importante spedizione italiana del Duca degli Abruzzi nel 1909, con il fallito tentativo di ascesa del K2. Esemplare molto ben conservato.
Mm 410x550 Opera priva della data di stampa, ma collocabile intorno agli anni sessanta dell'ottocento. Volume in mezza pergamena con piatti marmorizzati ed angoli sempre in pergamena con tracce di usura ai margini causa la mole. Piegature e piccole mancanze al primo foglio di guardia libero, frontespizio con lievi gore al margine esterno che si attenuano alle tre carte seguenti, peraltro l'interno è in buone condizioni con tutte le tavole a colori, comprese le due belle lombarde, presenti. Opera famosa difficile da reperire completa. Spedizione in 24 ore dalla conferma dell'ordine.

With an Appendix, containing geographical illustrations of Africa, by Major Rennell”. - Il volume 2° ("The Journal of a mission.."), in seconda edizione (la prima uscì separatamente nel mese di Marzo 1815), contiene “other documents, official and private, relating to the same mission. To which is prefixed an account of the life of Mr. Park”. Cfr. La relation de Mungo Park a été traduite dans presque toutes les langues européennes” - Brunet,IV, p. 375 - Printing and the Mind of Man,253. “L’esploratore scozzese Mungo Park (1771-1805) intraprese per conto della Società africana di Londra un viaggio di esplorazione nel bacino del Niger (1795), penetrando dalla Gambia nel Bondu e nella valle del Senegal e seguendo quindi il corso del Niger fino a Segu, nel Bambara. Il resoconto del viaggio ("Travels in the interior of Africa", 1799) lo rese popolare in Inghilterra. Ripartito alcuni anni dopo dalla Gambia (1805), Park raggiunse di nuovo il corso del Niger proponendosi di seguirlo fino alla foce, ma, mentre cercava con un battello di superare le rapide di Bussa, veniva attaccato e ucciso dagli indigeni insieme a tutti i suoi campagni. L’ardimento con cui penetrò in regioni difficili e ostili e il valore delle relazioni scritte fin poco prima della morte, fanno di lui uno dei maggiori esploratori moderni dell’Africa”. Così Diz. Si tratta della prima traduzione in lingua italiana della Geografia di Strabone; impresa editoriale che testimonia la crescita di interesse - che accompagnò l'intero XVI secolo - per ciò che riguardava la conoscenza geografica e antropologica del mondo.

In Ottoman script (Old Turkish with Arabic letters). 62 p., 18 unnumbered b/w photos, and four b/w maps. Slight foxing on extremities. Otherwise a very good copy. First and only edition of this exceedingly rare first book on Muslims and Islam in the Comoro Islands of Africa, located in the Mozambique Channel to the north-west of Madagascar and facing Mozambique, including Ngazidja (Grande Comore), Ndzuwani (Anjouan), Mwali (Moheli) and Mayotte (Maore) Islands. The book gives detailed information about the races, customs, and traditions of the natives of the archipelago, the introduction of Islam to the islands, and how influential it was on the people as well as on their education, social structure and the population of the archipelago. The work carried out in the context of missionary activities is also discussed in detail, and such information is supported by photographs, statistical tables and chronology of the islands. According to the information given in the work, Muslims first came to Yuhana Island in 750 AD and began to settle on the island. Since 854, there are claims that the Ismailis, a Shiite community, and then the Fatimid prince came to the islands and ruled for a period. Especially Arabs, Iranians, and Indians, who came and settled on the islands mostly for trade or travel, introduced Islam to the islands' natives, strengthened their ties with marriages and thus increased the population and influence on the islands and became instrumental in the establishment of Islam. Okday also describes the process of French exploitation that started when Comoros fell into the hands of the French, each of whom was under the control of the Malagasy despite England and Germany, and got the support of their pirates. This book has rich and attractive photos of natives of the archipelago, and other peoples who lived on the islands like Arabs, traditional homes and streets, Sultan Ahmad of the Comodo, statesmen and clergies, Prince Said Mohammad, women, and a French ship named 'La Bourdonnaise' as well as four maps showing the African continent and each of the islands. Ismail Hakki Tevfik Okday was an Ottoman intellectual and military commander, who participated in the First Balkan War, the Great War, and the Turkish War of Independence. He was born in Athens as the son of Ahmet Tevfik Pasha, who was then the Ottoman Ambassador to Greece, and later became the last Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. In nostro possesso tutte le annate complete dal 1893 al 1924 con le seguenti eccezioni: mancano completamente gli anni 1902 e 1916; del 1911 mancano 3 numeri (presente il solo no 2 di giugno), del 1919 manca un numero, il 4o, presenti i primi 3. Moltissimi articoli di archeologia preistorica, geologia, speleologia, biologia, geografia, fisica, chimica, meteorologia, riguardanti in particolar modo la Liguria ma non solo.
