The complete medical works of Lazare Rivière 1589-1655 professor at Montpellier consists of the Institutiones medicae together with the Praxeos medicae and an additional 17 parts on the head the sense organs the teeth the thorax and abdomen the joints womens illnesses and fevers. Also included are 400 observations by the author approximately 250 communicated to him by fellow physicians and finally the Arcana a collection of secrets giving the chemical formulae for a large number of preparations together with their medicinal properties. At the end separately paginated is added a treatise on the symptoms cause and cure of respiratory problems by Fabrizio Bartoletti 1586-1630. Rivière was the first to introduce the therapy of using metallic compounds internally known as the spagiric or paracelsian-specific method and the first to note aortic constriction. 8vo., First and Sole Edition, on laid paper, with portrait frontispiece, 7 plates, 4 illustrations and maps in the text, and folding map, preliminaries lightly foxed; original khaki cloth, upper board and backstrip blocked and lattered in gilt and black, gilt top, red endpapers, uncut, joints mildly rubbed, some mild age-soiling else a very good, bright, clean copy. The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry served as 20th Company Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa from April 1900 to June 1901. They were commanded variously by Hunter, Hutton, Clements and Cunningham. In December 1900 the 20th was attacked at Nooitgedacht where the British sustained heavy casualties and the Fifes were reduced to half strength. The remnants joined Cunningham's force to the end of January 1901 and were then attached to Col. Benson's column in south western Transvaal. In April 1901 the Fifes regrouped at full strength at Bloemfontein, joining Col. Pilcher's column in Orange River Colony and returning home in May 1901.The work includes a nominal roll and campaign history. VERY SCARCE. Ouvrage important du littérateur Charles Rivière Dufresny initialement paru en 1699. Ce roman de murs fut lune des principales sources dinspiration de Montesquieu pour ses Lettres Persanes. En effet on y trouve la première idée dune satire de la société parisienne et de ses murs ébauchée daprès le regard candide et spontané dun voyageur exotique imaginaire. "Imaginons-nous - écrit Dufresny - qu'un Siamois entre dans Paris. Quel amusement ne serait-ce point pour lui d'examiner avec des yeux de voyageur toutes les particularités de cette grande ville ! Il me prend envie de faire voyager ce Siamois avec moi ; ses idées bizarres et figurées me fourniront sans doute de la nouveauté et peut-être de l'agrément". There was a parallell edition of Rivières Opera medica universa printed in Frankfurt of this same year Sumptibus Joannis Petri Zubrodt. This volume is book five in his extensive compendium of medicine with sections on physiology pathology semiotics preservation of health and therapeutics. Subjects dealt with include cancer haemorrhaging the amount of food required by a healthy individual the diagnostic significance of bloodshot eyes and the medical properties of various fruits nuts and vegetables. Je vais vous faire envoyer un exemplaire des Miracles dAlain- Fournier, pour qui votre sollicitude, au moment o vous vous occupiez de la collection Larousse, mavait tellement touch...Fils d'un grand mdecin bordelais, Jacques Rivire se lie d'amiti avec Alain-Fournier (1886-1914) sur les bancs du lyce Lakanal, Sceaux, o tous deux prparent le concours d'entre l'cole normale suprieure. Le 24 aot 1908, il pouse la jeune soeur d'Alain-Fournier, Isabelle (1889-1971), dont il aura deux enfants. D'abord collaborateur L'Occident, il devient secrtaire de rdaction de la Nouvelle Revue franaise en 1911. Mobilis en 1914 au 220' rgiment d'infanterie, il est fait prisonnier le 24 aot, ds les premires chauffoures. Gravement malade, il est transfr en Suisse en 1917 et intern jusqu' la fin de la guerre. Au lendemain du conflit, il songe relancer la NRF dont la parution avait t interrompue. Sous sa nouvelle direction, elle reparat en juin 1919. Rivire y dploie de remarquables qualits en publiant Marcel Proust, Franois Mauriac, Paul Valry, Louis Aragon. En 1919, il reoit le Prix Blumenthal. Il n'crira qu'un court roman psychologique, Aime, paru en 1922. Aprs sa mort, son pouse Isabelle se consacre la publication de ses ?uvres, en mme temps que de celles de son frre Alain-Fournier. Louis Artus (1870-1960) est un crivain franais.
