Encuadernación en tela editorial con camisa. Desde la llegada de Schomburgk en la Guayana Británica en 1835 hasta 1839 exploró gran parte del interior de la colonia y completó el viaje por tierra al Orinoco para conectar su expedición con la de Alexander von Humboldt. Durante estas expediciones fue testigo de malos tratos a los amerindios a manos de los brasileños y propuso que se fijara la manera de proteger a la colonia británica del acoso. El Gobierno británico decidió proteger la frontera y Schomburgk fue nombrado comisionado de lÃmites con la tarea de inventariar los las fronteras de la colonia. Lo hizo entre 1841 y 1843 volviendo a Londres en 1844 para ser recompensado con el tÃtulo de caballero por sus servicios. Durante gran parte de su carrera posterior hasta su muerte en 1865 se desempeñó como cónsul británico primero en Santo Domingo y luego en Bangkok. Hakluyt Society hardcover
