Dino Terra, pseudonimo di Armando Simonetti (Roma, 1903 - Firenze, 1995), fu scrittore, drammaturgo, critico, pittore. Infiammato dalla passione politica, fin da giovanissimo volle animare a Roma il movimento pacifista internazionale Clarte'. Antifascista, dinamico intellettuale votato all'idea della creazione di una nuova cultura, fu amico di artisti come Paladini, Levi, De Chirico, Guttuso, ed ebbe contatti con intellettuali come Gramsci e Tilgher. Dall'introduzione di Carlo Levi: 'I quadri di Dino Terra [...] non hanno bisogno di panegirici, ne' di affannosi sforzi di propaganda. E' assai meglio, poiche' essi parlano, lasciarli parlare da soli'.

Una pianta f.t. della nuova Gerusalemme con la Via dolorosa e vedutina di una delle stazioni della Via Crucis e una tav. litografica incisa da Doyen con veduta di Gerusalemme. Fioriture usuali. Bell'esemplare. Prima edizione di questo volume ispirato al Martorelli dal suo primo viaggio in Terra Santa. L'opera è ricca di notazioni topografiche, storiche, etnografiche e di critica biblica. Nel 1865 essa fu seguita da un altro volume in cui il sacerdote vercellese narrava del suo secondo viaggio in Terra Santa. Il Martorelli (Vercelli, 1820-ivi, 1885) fu abate nell'Abbazia di Sant'Andrea di Vercelli e Canonico della Basilica Metropolitana della stessa città. Lasciò opere sulle catacombe di Roma, sui pellegrinaggi nei santuari di Oropa, di Loreto, di Assisi, di Lourdes, etc. Italiano

In quarto grande (28,3x22,5 cm); 39, (1) pp. Legatura in cartoncino rigido novecentesco. Bella testatina xilografica, con veduta marittima alla seconda carta. Piccolissimo rinforzo al recto del margine alto bianco della prima carta, ininfluente e leggerissima, quasi invisibile gora d'umidità al margine alto bianco delle prime carte ma nel complesso esemplare più che buono. Non comune, un solo esemplare censito in ICCU, prima edizione di questo scritto del grande fisico originario di Bibbiano (Reggio Emilia), Giovanni Battista Venturi. L'autore, discepolo di Spallanzani, iniziò ad insegnare logica nel Seminario di Reggio Emilia. Nel 1774 passa ad insegnare geometria all'Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia dove dal 1776 insegna poi fisica. Importante è il suo contributo allo studio della meccanica dei fluidi con la descrizione di quello che viene chiamato effetto Venturi che descrive il legame tra velocità e pressione di un fluido in un condotto. Nell'opera qui presentata il Venturi attraverso uno studio della presenza di rocce e minerali in varie parti del globo cerca di dimostrare come per lungo tempo parti della terra sono state sommerse dai mari. Vari sono riferimenti a giciemnti minerari e fatti avvenuti sulle colline reggiane e modenesi. Non comune.

Nel paese di Gesù" è il racconto del viaggio di Matilde Serao fra la primavera e l'estate del 1893.La Palestina inizia a gettare i semi per cambiamenti significativi che cominceranno presto a fiorire. L'Impero Ottomano è vicino alla dissoluzione, l'Ebraismo dell'Europa Centrale è sotto il giogo dell'oppressione e cerca nuovi mezzi di sopravvivenza.La Chiesa cattolica conserva ancora il suo disprezzo per gli ebrei, come se la volontà di Dio li avesse destinati a soffrire. Nelle sue memorie di viaggio Matilde Serao presenta la Terra Santa come luogo concreto e realistico, senza l'interferenza della propria sensibilità religiosa. Tuttavia questo suo libro può testimoniare i primi anni di immigrazione ebraica in Israele e le difficoltà materiali che provarono gli ebrei della Palestina anche alla vigilia della costituzione dello stato di Israele. Interessanti anche gli ultimi capitoli, nei quali la Serao indica tempi e prezzi dei passaggi in nave, degli alberghi, delle ferrovie, dei cavalli, dei necessari accompagnatori (un dragomanno, un beduino per i tratti più pericolosi.). Matilde Serao è stata una scrittrice e giornalista italiana, protagonista del rinnovamento della letteratura e del giornalismo italiano negli anni cruciali tra Ottocento e Novecento. Oltre ad aver lavorato intensamente come giornalista, fu autrice di settanta fra romanzi e raccolte di racconti, la maggior parte di impronta verista.
