[In Firenze, nella stamperia Mouckiana, 1767]. Acquaforte colorata a mano, mm. 343x272 (l'impronta della lastra), mm. 462x362 (il foglio). Firmata in lastra: Viol.e Vanni. Dedica a Giulio Rucellai, incisa in rame, sotto la figura. Magnifica calcografia, proveniente dalla "Storia naturale degli Uccelli", a cura di Saverio Manetti, Lorenzo Lorenzi e Violante Vanni, stampata a Firenze negli anni 1767-1776. Manetti, medico e direttore dell'orto botanico di Firenze dal 1749 al 1782, fu il responsabile del testo, per la nomenclatura delle specie e per la distribuzione dell'opera. L'abate Lorenzo Lorenzi e Violante Vanni (una delle poche donne a lavorare in quel campo) disegnarono le tavole, le incisero su rame e le colorarono a mano. Il risultato fu la migliore e più ampia opera illustrata di ornitologia realizzata fino ad allora. Si tratta della tavola numero III dell'opera. Ottime condizioni, in passe-partout.
Milano Rizzoli, 1931, in-4, legatura coeva in mezza pelle, titolo e filetti in oro al dorso (spellature), pp. XX, 752. Con illustrazioni come da frontespizio. Ceresoli, 346: “Magnifica opera considerata un capolavoro dell'arte tipografica”. Lievi mancanze alla cartonatura dei piatti.
In 8, cm 13,5 x 20,5, pp. (8) + 30 + (2). Brossura in carta d'epoca. Edizione originale rara di questo manuale per la preparazione e conservazione degli uccelli nei gabinetti di storia naturale. L'autore, originario di Palazzolo sull'Oglio, abbraccio' la carriera ecclesiastica e a 19 anni si reco' a Brescia per studiare diritto e teologia. Fu precettore a casa del Duranti. A partire dal 1760 inizio' a raccogliere note e osservazioni su fenomeni naturali quali comete ecc. Dopo alcuni anni di insegnamento venne chiamato in qualita' di conservatore del Museo di Storia Naturale dell'Universita' di Pavia, posto che occupo' per ben 32 anni, recandosi anche, negli anni 1792 - 93, in Africa e in Sardegna al fine di procacciare per il museo nuovi esemplari. In quest'operetta, dedicata all'A. R. Donna Maria Amalia, infanta di spagna, che poco prima della pubblicazione aveva visitato il museo insieme agli Arciduchi Ferdinando e Beatrice, fornisce tutti i principi per poter imbalsamare gli uccelli secondo i metodi da lui stesso messi a punto. In particolare suggerisce al fine di tenere lontani insetti pericolosi per la conservazione, un preparato di spirito di vino e sublimato corrosivo, metodo ben meno pericoloso del piu' noto sistema con l'arsenico.
