Printed by the inimitable Grabhorn Press this broadside features an excerpt from Robin Lampson's 1900-1978 "Laughter Out of the Ground" a narrative poem about the California Gold Rush. The grandson of a Forty-Niner Lampson depicts the experiences and struggles people faced during the Gold Rush with intricate language and combines philosophical musings with narrative composition in the poem.

The broadside was "given to those present in The Emporium Bookshop at a reading by Lampson of his poem" per the bibliography. The Emporium was a famous department store in San Francisco which had its own book department as did many in the early part of the 20th century and we love the thought of Ed and Robert Grabhorn printing this broadside and bringing the copies across Market Street to attend the reading.

This item seemingly scarce in the marketplace with no other copies listed online as of this writing although OCLC locates eighteen institutional holdings.

___DESCRIPTION: Broadside printed in orange and black with two initial capitals in orange one historiated depicting a minor behind the initial; Garamond type machine-made paper 15" by 10" one of 200 copies unnumbered.

___CONDITION: Very good clean on the recto with only a few spots of soiling to the verso light edge wear to the top and bottom edges and light toning to the margins.

___CITATION: Grabhorn Press Bibliography no. 244.

___POSTAGE: Â International customers please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.

___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
