Artist's book one of 41 copies all on papers that were contact printed using materials from autumnal gatherings including fruits nuts seeds flowers leaves twigs fungi and various metals by artist and poet Velma Bolyard signed by the artist / author Velma Bolyard and the printer / co-publisher Mark McMurray on the colophon. Page size: 6-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches; unfolds to 25-3/4 x 19 7/8 inches; 16pp. plus reverse blanks of contact-print paper. Bound: folded and housed in a brown or green or blue envelope with matching hand-stitching and circular cut-out on front making visible title and artist's name which are printed on the lovely eco paper. After "cooking" her gatherings of natural materials in a dye pot the artist separates rinses and presses them dry. They are transferred to paper by means of heat water and pressure. The result: an herbal map of the artist's home and a delicately subtle surface with great depth. Ms. Bolyard's poem was printed letterpress by Mark McMurray and the artist / author on a Washington Hoe Press. As the first pro-gay journal of its kind it serves as an important source for pre-Stonewall homophile studies. In 1954 the US Post Office declared it obscene leading to a four-year legal battle chronicled in its pages that concluded with a favorable decision as part of Roth vs. United States. Original 322 page private in-studio conductor’s score printed in purple ink used by Erich Wolfgang Korngold in recording his musical score for the classic film Robin Hood. With occasional annotations and markings by Korngold in pencil. Additionally each musical sequence is marked with red pencil for recording. This score was presented to Hal Wallis the producer of the film with a large remarkable two page Korngold written inscription: “To Hal Wallis with many thanks in friendship and admiration Erich Wolfgang Korngold Hollywood 4.18.1938â€. On the facing second page Korngold has written out the first bars of music for six of the film’s musical themes “Robin Hood†“Robin Hood’s Companyâ€â€Lady Marian†Lionheart England†“Sir Guy†“Love Themeâ€. Beneath which Korngold has written “One minute - one page†--â€One hour - a million of notes†The genning of each sequence is marked in print CONDUCTOR. Beautifully bound in dark green Niger leather with gilt-stamping. The volume measures 10 1/2 inches wide by 12 1/2 inches tall. It is enclosed in a custom clamshell full linen cloth box. Hal B. Wallis 1899-1986 was one of Hollywood’s greatest film producers whose additional accomplishments include the films Casablanca The Maltese Falcon Yankee Doodle Dandy Dark Victory and many others. The resulting film has come down to us as one of Hollywood’s greatest classics and stars Errol Flynn Olivia de Havilland Claude Rains and Basil Rathbone. Korngold won the Academy Ward for Best Original Score for The Adventures of Robin Hood. The American Film Institute chose Robin Hood as number eleven in its list of the top 25 best American film scores.
