Includes Gull bibliography at end. Gull's dates: 1816-1890. He wrote on numerous subjects notably anorexia paraplegia and hormones he was 'physician extraordinary' to Queen Victoria and oddly suspected of being Jack the Ripper though in his 70s by then and having has a stroke. Faint infrequent spotting throughout. Some heavier spotting to first/last few leaves. Endpapers rubbed. Top edge toned. Some rubbing to joints mild edgewear with some fraying to extremities. Very good. The invaluable work of a pioneering figure in English medicine - Gull's work on diseases in particular nervous disorders such as paraplegia and anorexia nervosa made incredible strides in the field of human biology. Gull was a prominent English journalist and novelist best known for his Christian novel 'When It Was Dark'.'And It Came To Pass' has similar religious themes to 'When It Was Dark' containing ideas of miracles religious figures and exploring the influence of religion on society. Loosely inserted is the original publisher's advertisement for this book with a brightly coloured image and a description of the work with a page of 'New and Important Books' from the publisher.Previous owner's ink inscription of Wilfred Granville. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally very smart with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and the occasional mark. Light rubbing to the spine.
