1896012927London: The New Sydenham Society 1896. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Vol.1. Dark brown blind-stamped cloth with gilt spine lettering and Sydenham logo centre front this would be near fine but for small cloth chip to top back outer corner. Vol.1.: New Sydenham Society half-title with'Volume 156' f/piece portrait with tissue guards lxxii plate with tissue guard 184; tanning spots through to f/piece but lighter on this otherwise no obvious faults would rate this volume alone Fine. Vol.2. half title with 'Volume CXLVII' xii inc. illustrations index 600 20 plates ex-pagination VII - XIX in a block 10 woodcuts in text; heavy tanning spotting to verso front end-paper facing series t.p. and verso same but not main t.p. p. 660 and facing recto final end-paper similarly affected otherwise internally clean tight and unmarked. As the tanning problem seems to be very common in this series a VG rating seems reasonable. He wrote on numerous subjects notably anorexia paraplegia and hormones he was 'physician extraordinary' to Queen Victoria and oddly suspected of being Jack the Ripper though in his 70s by then and having has a stroke.
