Rear cover blind stamped coat of arms with supporters and border designs. Spine is blank. Tallish 8vo. 'Historical Memoir' of the Pacific Railroad of xvii pages followed by 93 pages plus an Errata leaf at the rear. Frontis color fold-out map some 33 inches long by 9 inches tall being the Geological Map of the proposed route and two full page plates. One of the plates is of particular interest in that it shows the mining town of Granby Missouri as it was in 1857; mostly small log houses and shacks apparently home to the many miners working there. This proposed railroad was to cross Missouri from St. Louis to the western border and was meant to be a link in a cross country railroad. 3/4 inch chip at spine bottom; spine top with light chipping; tips lightly worn through; cloth along the gutters split here and there; previous owner name at the front; former historical society bookplate on front pastedown; Map lightly edgeworn.
