Contents clean and tight inscription in ink to the top of the half title dated 1904 original end-papers toned and a little brittle around the edges slight spotting to title page and the odd page edge some rusting to staples running down the spine of the first few gathers plates clean. A very good copy. The plates used in different editions of this work are not standard and vary in quality this particular edition includes plates printed to a high standard and importantly the eggs are illustrated with shadows giving a particularly 3-dimensional look: they are in our opinion superior to some earlier editions. The text is largely unopened and the text paper is toned towards the margins. The plates are very well coloured and have some toning to top page edges. The tissue guards to plates 6 and 26 are present but detached. Plate 17 has very toned paper particularly at the edges and there is professional paper repair to the side edge. All the plates are tissue-guarded and are very well coloured. There is some offsetting to the guards and the occasional nibble to the guard edge. The cloth binding has been rebacked relaying the original spine and is sound and tight. There is some slightly paler marking to the boards and the corners have light wear. The original green endpapers are present - the free endpaper is watermarked - and have professional repair at the joints. Contents are clean with toning to the margins including to the plate paper. Pages 169-172 have been roughly opened at the top edge and there is a small ink spot at the top edge of p 205. The plates are generally clean and very well coloured. Tissue guards tend to have some spotting or offsetting - Plate 1 has general toning and a very browned guard and the guard to plate 24 has a small area of paint from the bird on it.</p> W H LIZARS hardcover

The and plate paper has light toning. The tissue guards to the plates have occasional marks or spots and some offsetting. The tissue guard to plate 16 has a red paint mark at the edge.
