Here it opens with an introduction by Andrew White Tuer half of the publishing firm. "The type and illustrations . . . follow as closely as possible the original edition of 1811" notes the limitation statement which also marks this as => numbered copy 143 of 500 printed signed by the publishers.<br>Â Â Â Â The plates include a reproduction of the woodcut from the original first edition paper wrapper printed on blue paper as well as => hand-colored facsimiles of the nine original copper engravings.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. The design consists of stylized rose buds and foliage that replicate stenciled hand work. Top edge gilt. Elaborate ornamental title page in the Celtic tradition as well as several head and tail pieces in a mirroring design. A most unusual and handsome gift book produced by one of the leading publishers of the day. Cloth shows moderate soiling overall with occasional ink splatter to cloth and bottom edges of book blocks. A near fine set with spines faded to brown and some light wear to hinges light rubbing to extremities in volume II else very bright and clean. Though best known for his Essays of Elia and Tales from Shakespeare Charles Lamb also published several shorter works including poems plays and essays. These range in topic from scholarly pieces on Shakespeare and his contemporaries to his famously sentimental poems like "The Old Familiar Faces" which touches on the death of Lamb's mother.
