1856607848Philadelphia: Willis P. Hazard 1856. Hardcover. Very Good. Three volumes of what we believe is supposed to be a four volume set. The Essays of Elia is stated "New Edition." The Life and Letters of Charles Lamb by Thomas Noon Talfourd. Octavo. Quarter levant over marbled paper boards the spine has raised bands striped in gilt making six compartments each repeating a decorative pattern in gilt save for the second and third from the top which have "Lamb's Work" and the volume number respectively in gilt all page edges marbled and marbled endpapers. Volume One with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Charles Lamb. Each volume with bookplate of Joseph S. Perot of Philadelphia PA along with his signature on the second front flyleaf dated Sept. 8th 1856. Boards and spines show some wear light bubbling to the levant along the boards some minor foxing to the flyleaves and Volume One with foxing to the frontispiece and title page and a small stain at the top of the front board overall a very good set with the pages bright and clean. Lamb's biographer E.V. Lucas described him as "the most lovable figure in English literature. Willis P. Hazard hardcover
