Charles James Fox 1749-1806 politician and member of the Whig party began work on A History of the Early Part of the Reign of James the Second in 1799 it was researched in London and Paris and members of his large group of friends known as Foxites were recruited to assist in the work. He was the last Roman Catholic monarch to reign over the Kingdoms of England Scotland and Ireland. Many of his subjects distrusted his religious policies and autocratic tendencies leading a group of them to depose him in the Glorious Revolution in 1688.
