The original first edition had been out of print for a year and a half when Sage publishing printed a second edition. Subsequently 300 copies of the original first edition published by the University of New Mexico were found at the bindery. This edition was prized over the Sage edition because it contains an introduction and color printing that the less expensive Sage edition did not. A limitation page was tipped in which was signed by Frank Waters. The dustjacket is price clipped and has very light rubbing to the front flap fold and the spine ends. This copy is housed in a unique red slipcase with Indian art on the spine. Book is protected in a custom cut clear mylar cover. All books are carefully wrapped and shipped in a box. Copley Library with the San Diego newspaper publisher and philanthropist's bookplate to the front pastedown. Tall octavo: 438 2 pp. The original cloth binding is notably fresh and bright. The review in Publisher's Weekly wrote: " accumulated evidence.poses the question whether today's intense interest in psychic phenomena is not an expected 'sixth phase' in a cosmic unfolding of man's development." This has a printing error on page 24 where line 21 is duplicated. Bound in 1/4 dark blue cloth over white cloth stamped in blue and blind spine lettering silver. The extremities are rubbed stained and gently bumped. There is a small loss from the bottom edge of the spine and front board that measures 3/4 of an inch wide by 1/4 inch deep. There are several splits in the cloth at the ends of the spine. There is a soiled scuff mark on the bottom edge of the text block. Subtly yellowed pages. The fore edge margins of the last several pages have small light stains. In a worn and insect nibbled dust jacket with numerous losses from the surface and edges. The largest loss is from the paper at the head of the spine. This loss measures 1 and 1/2 inches wide by 1 and 1/2 inches deep. What remains of the spine is heavily faded. The jacket is also age-toned and mildly soiled and stained. Not price-clipped. Inscribed by the author on the half title page. From the jacket- This is an intimate and dramatic portrait of a unique American figure- Winfield Scott Stratton the discoverer of one of the world's most fabulous gold mines. Covici Friede hardcover
