One atlas folio poster sized 23 x 29.25 in. colour lithographed with large central image black lettering bordering above and below minor scuffing small tear to right corner ink mark at right blank some soiling minor loss to lower left corner still VG- copy. First edition of this fund raising poster promoting the National War Garden Commission who stridently advocated canning and food preservation as home front support during World War I. Pack 1857-1937 a forestry expert and 3rd generation Michigan lumber baron was keen on public education and promoted the importance of self-sustainability of food supplies in the United States. He was the primary org`anizer of the National War Garden Commission and his efforts including posters lecture seminars instructional works along with canning and drying manuals resulted in an estimated 1.45 million quarts of canned fruits and vegetables in 1918. He also was a key figure who aided in the U.S. School Garden Army mobilizing American school children. Maginel Wright Enright 1881-1966 was the youngest sister of Frank Lloyd Wright 1867-1959 attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1897-1898 and joined the Chicago engraving firm of Barnes Crosby & Co. as artist. She illustrated over 60 books many magazine covers patriotic posters during World War I and was also considered by Walter Reed “largely responsible for revolutionizing the quality of illustrations in children’s readers.†Worldcat locates 3 copies DLC UNC - Chapel Hill Lib. of VA. THIS COPY WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF SIR FRANCIS TUDSBERY AT CHAMPFLEURIE AND BEARS HIS FINE NINETEENTH-CENTURY ENGRAVED ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE ON FRONT PASTE-DOWN. Francis and Isabella Tudsbery occupied and managed the Champfleurie Estate and its famous gardens, near Linlithgow Palace, during much of the twentieth century. Their son Robin was an equerry to the late Queen Mother. The work was first published in 1901 with far fewer plates. With 16pp publisher's catalogue bound in at end, and small trade ticket os Harrison of Ipswich on front paste-down. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
