Includes glossary, and English and Latin indexes. Johns' classic handbook was first published in two volumes in 1853 and several times reissued as a single volume. In 1892 an Appendix entitled 'Grasses' was compiled by the author's son from Bentham & Hooker. The work was revised substantially by Boulger for the twenty-ninth edition of 1899, with Grace Layton's fine coloured plates appearing for the first time in the thirty-second edition of 1910. Elliott's major revision was first published in 1907; he founded the Six Hills Nursery, renowned for its alpines and allied rock plants. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. See Freeman 1974.
