Arguably the scarcest of his wartime collections, this important Street title is based on his week-by-week farming diary of the first three years of WWII. Prior to the outbreak of war Street had been primarily a writer and broadcaster; this account of his return to the land gives much fascinating detail on the farming practices of the period. The 'whistle' of the title refers to an air-raid siren. This scarce work is rarely found in really good condition due to stringent wartime production standards. Any dustwrapper is a real bonus.
