The Gallipoli Campaign in the Great War.= Büyük Harpte Çanakkale Seferi. Prep. by Murat Karatas. Translated by Elif Berfin. The Gallipoli Campaign took place in 1915 and 1916, between Ottoman empire and the Allies; and witnessed the toughest naval and land battles of World War I. The Allied Forces were aiming to capture the Dardanelles and Bosphorus straits, and then push Ottoman Empire out of the war. Whereas Turkish Army was there to defend the straits, and to stay in the war, by any means. Bursali Mehmed Nihad (participated in these battles as captain in the first year and continued as major in the next) presents an important first hand study that recites the Gallipoli Campaign, which caused hundreds thousands of casualties for both sides.
