Don Diego Barros Arana 1830 - 1907 Chilean historian & investigative writer of Basque origin legislator minister and diplomat; "studied for a legal career but gave up the law to pursue his interests in history and literature. In 1859 the Chilean government exiled him for writing articles critical of the government. He was one of the first Latin-American historians to explore the rich Spanish archivessubsequently served as a dean of the humanities faculty at the University of Santiago and as Chilean ambassador to Argentina Uruguay and Brazil.
