Henry Thornton 1760-1815 English merchant and banker. Was director of the Bank of England and for 30 years member of Parliament. In his "Enquiry" he systemized ideas on money circulation interest price and employment. Though very successful in his own day the "Enquiry" was gradually forgotten until Hollander Viner and others rediscovered it and drew attention to its anticipations of modern monetary theory.
