ABOUT THE BOOK:- The book examines the impact of globalization on the developing economies of the world in general and Indian economy in particular. Divided into three parts, it evaluates the impact of globalization on the Indian macro-economy, as also impact of globalization on agriculture and the environment and on social sectors such as health and education, demography and gender. The first part containing seven chapters talks about the impact of globalization in developing economies, especially with reference to India. It discusses various macro-economic issues with respect to globalization such as innovation, capital movement and capital adequacy as also growth and employment under globalization. The second section, containing seven chapters, is based on issues related to impact of globalization on agriculture and environment in India. The third section, containing three chapters, is based on studies in various social sectors of Indian society, such as education, gender and demography that are affected from globalization. The book covers a wide range of topics related to globalization and development, and offers results useful to guide development policies under globalization. This comprehensive and analytically rich volume will be immensely useful to teachers, researchers, policymakers, students and general readers, interested in globalization and development in India ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Apurba Kumar Chattopadhyay is Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics & Politics, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. He was a visiting Professor at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has also taught at University of Calcutta, Rabindra-Bharati University, Kolkata and S R Lahiri Mahavidyalaya, Majdia. He has worked on the related themes for the last two decades and published several research articles in various national and international peer-reviewed journals in Economics as well as edited quite a few books. Dr Achiransu Acharyya is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics & Politics, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan. He was awarded a teaching cum research assistantship in 2007 at University of Oregon, USA and a Visiting Fellowship at University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands in 2003. He was awarded the third prize for the essay entitled "Scope of Public Economics for the environmentally handicapped in South Asia" in the James D. Wolfensohn Essay Competition by The World Bank. He has completed Research Projects funded by the UGC and Government of West Bengal. He has several research papers to his credit in various national and international peer-reviewed journals in Economics as also chapters in edited books at the national and international levels. Soumyadip Chattopadhyay teaches at the Department of Economics and Politics, Visva Bharati University. He was associated with Graduate School of Geography Clark University as a CV Raman Fellow and Department of Urban Studies and Planning University of Sheffield as a Commonwealth Academic Fellow. His research interests lie in the field of development studies and more specifically focuses on urban finance, urban inequality and ongoing transformations in urban governance in Indian cities. His research works have been published in the Progress in Development Studies, Development in Practice, Environment and Urbanization ASIA, Journal of Infrastructure Development, South Asian Survey, Economic and Political Weekly, Indian Journal of Economics, Urban India, Local Government Quarterly, Journal of Rural Development, International Journal of Regulation and Governance and Journal of Development Policy and Practice, as well as in other Journals and edited volumes.
