1940515H4332London: Francis Aldor 1940. Book. Fair. Hardcover. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 261 pages. "Nazi theory has evolved the concept of 'Lebensraum' living space - Nazi practice has realised the fact of 'Todesraum' death space" - subtitle. Author conversed with scores of Polish refugees in Paris. "As I listened to their stories I saw with searing vividness the similarity between what is happening in Poland today and what happened in Belgium 25 years ago; the similarity and the difference which lies in the fact that the Germans today are even more brutal more bestial than they were in 1914-1918. I decided to publish these stories together with an essay comparing German conduct during the last war and during the present one and showing that if they have changed at all it has been for the worse. Some of the stories are so horrible that they exhaust all ordinary human capacity for horror and indignation. However some at least of the victims of German blood lust have escaped death. Let them speak." - Publisher's Statement pages 6-7. Heavy soiling to publisher's yellow cloth. Front hinge starting. Moderate foxing to and near endpapers. Dust jacket not included. A worthy reference copy of this grim testament to the suffering of the Poles in WWII. Enser p.341. Francis Aldor Hardcover
1955441j1375London: Victor Gollancz Ltd. 1955. First British Edition. Hardcover. "The authors were convinced that the decision to withhold from Dr. Oppenheimer one of America's most distinguished scientists the security clearance which would enable him to continue as chief adviser to the Government on scientific matters was a miscarriage of justice as unworthy of the fine traditions of the American past as the trial of Captain Dreyfus was unworthy of France. They contend that the parties to certain high-level disputes wanted Oppenheimer removed from his position of influence in these disputes. Includes a scrupulous analysis of the proceedings." - dust jacket. "J. Robert Oppenheimer 1904-1967 was an American theoretical physicist. He was director of the Manhattan Project's Los Alamos Laboratory during World War II and is often called the 'father of the atomic bomb'". - Wikipedia. 208 pages. Tight and unmarked with average wear to original red paper over boards. Somewhat above-average wear to dust jacket now in glossy new archival-grade protection. An excellent very good copy. The second edition i.e. the Great Western Publishing Co. edition copyright 1904-1905 entitled "The Cripple Creek Strike: A History of Indistrial Wars in Colorado 1903-4-5" describes this first edition as follows: page 255 "When the first edition of "The Cripple Creek Strike" was bound the work was a complete record of those dark days. At that time I felt that nothing could take place that would surpass the outrages that had been perpetrated upon the citizens of Colorado."; and page 259 "When I closed the first edition of this work which forms Part I it looked as if the industrial conflict might continue for weeks months or even years without either side obtaining a victory or anything happening other than recorded in Part I. However important events have occurred causing me to again use pen paper and scissors for the purpose of recording events to the close of the gubernatorial contest. I closed the first edition on May 1 1904." "Details the sad story of the internal conflict in Israel between the two great branches of Jewry: the Sephardim principally from the region of Islam and the Ashkenazim Jews who originate from Eastern Europe and who are the main proponents of Zionism. Suggests that a solution to the present impasse is that the Sephardi Jews should reassert their ancient pact with their Muslim neighbours whose history and homeland they share in order to establish a just peace in the Middle East. As a child and young man Gideon N. Giladi lived and worked on a number of kibbutzim and has witnessed the events of Palestine since the time of the British Mandate. Hoke concerned that proceedings against alleged WWII American fascists were being stymied or kept secret decided to write this book to serve as a final report which woujld attempt to tell the whole truth. "I will not violate any of the legal rules of secrecy surrounding Grand Jury proceedings. But I insist that it is permissible to give all the names of all the people who appeared before the various Grand Juries investigating WWII-era sedition and to give too the background of the witnewsses known from long and close study. I describe what has happened to some of the witnesses who appeared before the Federal Grand Jury what they are doing now and whhat their announced plans are for the future. All of this put together should give a pattern of what the Fascists expect to do and why we should be on watch against them." - Introduction. 1932347j0317London: BUF - British Union of Fascists. Good with no dust jacket. 1932. Reprint. Hardcover. "The object of this book is to prove by analysis of the present situation and by constructive policy that the necessity for a fundamental change exists. Our political system dates substantially from 1832. The intervening century has seen the invention and development of telegraph telephone and wireless. Wise laws and wise institutions are those which harness without restricting; which allow human activity full play but guide it into channels which serve the nation's ends. Hence the need for a New Movement not only in politics but in the whole of our national life. The movement is Fascist i because it is based on a high conception of citizenship and ii because it recognises the necessity for an authoritative state." - Introduction. "Sir Oswald Ernald Mosley 6th Baronet 1896-1980 was a British politician during the 1920s and 1930s who rose to fame when having become disillusioned with mainstream politics he turned to fascism. He was a member of parliament and later founded and led the British Union of Fascists." - Wikipedia. viii 2 11-160 pp. Second printing of the 1932 first edition.
