192017300Chicago: Cut Craft Cut Outs American Colortype Co. ca. 1920 First edition. This is one in a series of four "One Room" kits the other rooms shown on the envelope are a dining room bedroom and kitchen. . Buff paper envelope printed in color with an illustration advertising the four possible "One Room" model home scenes. . All richly printed in color. The larger leaf is a rug and the two smaller leaves are printed with furniture pieces to be cut out and assembled into a living room scene. The rug and some of the furniture items are designed in a pseudo-"oriental" style. Wear and toning to edges of envelope creases fragile. The leaves within are clean and bright. A very good copy of a rare and fragile item. Activity kits like the present item were popular educational tools because they inspired children's creativity and helped them practice fine motor skills and techniques that transferred to art lessons like cutting with scissors and folding paper. The present kit is additionally interesting for its distinctly Arts and Crafts era design. The kit includes a model of a Stickley-style settee Tiffany-style lamps and a porcelain vase emblematic of "oriental" interior design trend of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Cut Craft Cut Outs, American Colortype Co.,

187166Boston; Nov. 1 1871. 1871 9 pp. folio. This indenture was made the first day of November 1871 between the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Company and Oliver Ames and Charles F. Choate. The Atlantic and Pacific was to be built from Missouri and Arkansas to the Pacific Coast. From the very beginning the Atlantic and Pacific was plagued with problems even though they had the same rights as other transcontinental railroads regarding bonds land grants etc. Ames and Choate noted bankers of railroads and other various schemes were to loan to the railroad in gold coin. The amount is left blank in this document and the document is not signed by the parties. They were to be repaid in gold coin with an annual interest rate of 6%. In addition to the indenture listed above another indenture was made with George Bigeldow and James Dixwell. 2 pp. with manuscript corrections and additions. Including a provision to enable the Atlantic and Pacific to mortgage the road. This document was written earlier and does not have nearly as many provisions as in the Ames and Choate indenture. Four years later the Atlantic and Pacific would lapse into receivership. Oliver Ames then the largest stockholder purchased 96697 acres of the road's Missouri lands. After reorganization the A & P had some life until the panic of 1893 and the spoils were then divided between the Santa Fe and Frisco. These two documents are important in understanding the financial development of this railroad. Atlantic and Pacific material is quite scarce. Oliver Ames was the brother of Oakes. This railroad was to have been a very important development for Arkansas and Missouri. These documents are housed in a very attractive folding box 9 x 7 3/4 inches with green cloth-covered boards and a green morocco spine label with gilt lettering. 3214013 OG2080. 1st Edition. 1952106j1666Boston: Little Brown And Company. 1952. First U.S. Edition. Hardcover. Very Good in Good dust jacket. Respectfully signed and inscribed by Prychodko to his boss upon front free endpaper. "Tells of the author's 21 months in a Kiev prison between March 1938 and November 1939 and of his more than 14 months in labor camps in Siberia between November 1939 and February 1941. Upon his return home in 1941 he learned that his wife had been obliged to divorce him shortly after his arrest and had remarried and moved taking their young son with her. He eventually moved to Canada and was working at de Havilland Aircraft and A.V. Roe Ltd. when the Avro Arrow project was cancelled in 1959. Citing one experience in Kiev he recalled that 'some inmates of my cell were laid down on the floor during interrogation. The interrogator jumped from his desk on to the victims' stomachs or chests breaking their ribs.' Prychodko 1906-1980 wrote this book in three weeks in 1948 around the time he moved to Canada. It was eventually published in at least eight other languages." - condensed from a 1974 Toronto Star news clipping laid-in. "In this unvarnished factual account so dramatic in its simplicity Mr. Prychodko tells the story of experiences while incarcerated. The means by which he eventually obtained his release his journey back to the Ukraine and his escape to freedom make up the exciting climax of this moving story of one man's deliverance from communist servitude. His purpose was not merely to tell of his personal ordeal but to tell the democratic people the truth about conditions in the USSR." - dust jacket. 236 pp. Glossary. Book clean tight and unmarked with very light wear. Moderate wear to unclipped dust jacket now in glossy new archival-grade protection.
