A detailed program for a series of events which took place in and around Harvard Square in Boston in 1990 in honor of poet Frank O'Hara. Events produced by The Poets' Theatre The North House Music Society and The Harvard Gay & Lesbian Caucus. Participants included John Asgbery David Aspinwall Ha Jin Joseph LeSeuer Robert Pinsky and many others. This booklet includes several poems by O'Hara as well as a detailed chronology. Condition is very good with some light cover soiling and handling wear. The first copy of this piece of O'Hara ephemera that has crossed our path. The Poets' Theatre unknown books
018868Phoenix May 1918: Phoenix Union High School. Octavo. 231pp. The earliest recorded copies in the Arizona Newspaper Project and OCLC are in the 1930's. Much on this item dedicated to those classmates who had gone to fight in World War I. The opening poem is dedicated to the 28th. Besides giving accounts of the different departments there is a nice description of Jefferson Street when it was poorly lit in the first decade of the 20th Century. A later patriotic poem which notes that the Patriots of Phoenix High have "jacked old "Uncle Sammy" to bring justice "to the Hun". It goes on to say they did this by buying liberty bonds. It lists 185 of their older classmates who served in World War I four of whom died in the conflict. The school did not open in the Fall until December 16 because of the influenza crisis. Also there are large ads for some of the well-known Phoenix business some with a patriotic note such as Donofrios which suggests that while "you are thinking about that soldier Boy send him a box of their Cactus Candy." A community fundraising cookbook for the benefit of North Bennett Street Industrial School. There is no front matter title page intro etc. and the recipes are not attributed but are drawn from members of the surrounding community Boston's North End. Other fundraising efforts for the school are featured in the advertising section including The Perfection Bottle Rack "made by the unemployed" and an unnamed Spanish olive oil "sold exclusively by the North Bennett Street Industrial School". There is also a full page illustrated ad for Prince Superfine Macaroni. ~ Card stock boards printed in blue and silver; edge wear and pulls at a few wire coils. Included in this issue are his retirement statement a letter he wrote T.R. in 1901 on Indian policy statements and commendations from all over and another Pratt speech from 1904.
