A nice vintage "School story", in the style of Angela Brazil, by an English author [real name Joan Mary Wayne Brown] later famous for her series of "Pony" stories for girls. The text is clean and unmarked, the hinges shaken, some shelf wear, spine sun damaged. Overall a nice piece of vintage nostalgia for lovers of the genre. With the prize bookplate of Harrow School (dated 1907) on front paste-down. A handsome copy of the first single-volume edition, based on the two-volume first edition of 1890. This edition retains Nansens's preface, adds a new preface by Longman and preserves the great majority of the illustrations of the original.
