br. Prete dell'Oratorio di Francia, Lucien Laberthonnière (1860-1932) è stato uno dei più vigorosi pensatori cristiani del primo Novecento. Questo volume offre la prima raccolta completa dei suoi scritti pedagogici, compresi alcuni inediti. Tra i testi presentati spicca la Teoria dell'educazione (1901), dove l'autore espone la sua concezione dell'autorità-servizio, che dal contesto educativo estende a tutte le forme che l'autorità assume nelle diverse società, e in particolare nella Chiesa, società spirituale per eccellenza. Alcuni contributi mostrano, per altro, una riflessione attenta non solo ai grandi principi, ma anche ai concreti problemi scolastici e didattici. Chiude la raccolta un singolare testo del 1929, dove Laberthonnière, sollecitato a riflettere sulla natura di una scuola laica, auspica l'avvento di un ambiente educativo che, evitando le derive tanto del confessionalismo quanto della neutralità, si sforzi d'essere una scuola di ricerca e di dialogo.
