Photos of Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle: Gold fish pond tulips and Hydrangeas. One caption that accompanies a few outdoor photos reads "In Forest Park" possibly a park in the Dallas - Ft. Worth area. Other photos show children playing in the snow and two young girls performing gymnastic stretches. Most photos have been removed from the album. The brass bands were an early tradition from the 1865 beginnings of the Salvation Army in East London; in 1947 large brass bands played to great public excitement and continued to accompany church services. It comprises a list of paintings drawings lithographs prints in many areas and rooms of the house from the "Top of Staircase" to "Library" to "Best Bedroom" to "Dining Room" etc. Several items are associated with the Sumner Family: a lithograph of Archbishop Sumner on the Principal Staircase; a "Pastel coloured drawing - Family Group of Mrs. John Bird Sumner four daughters and son by Hastings 1827"; "Water colour drawing - The four Miss Sumners by Geo. Richmond R.A. 1833"; Water colour Portrait of Archbishop Sumner by Geo. Richmond; another water colour drawing of Archbishop Sumner; Water colour drawing by Miss Sumner with initials "M.L.S." The four pages 50-53 have been deleted in pencil and a new version on four pages also paginated 50-53 has been loosely inserted. Duplicated typescript on 85 leaves stapled together. In fair condition aged and worn with minor damp staining at head. 'No. 22' in red ink at head of cover. The play is said to be 'based on fact; on an actual historical situation' and is 'set in Cape Town and London between July 1899 and March 1992'. Aaronson was the author of 23 books on royal subjects. The present title is not to be found on either OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC. a87552Appears to have been scrapbook of Natalie Kinnell wife of Boris Kinnell of Glen Cove Long Island New York. Most of the material is news clippings and invitations concerning Marguerite Nielka the stage name of Margaret Kinnell Lady Cowdray's niece. At the beginning of World War One Nielka organized the Lambeth Red Cross and set up the Nielka Hospital. She then went on to tour the world as a concert singer. She died June 29 1939. There are about 30 original photographs but no identifications given. There is also a news clipping about the marriage of Susan Kinnell of New Jersey. Two pages of manuscript genealogy on Edward Moore Noble bornin 1774 and Samuel Allsopp of Derby who married in 1681. . unknown

On offer is an outstanding example of a complete French legal agreement dating from the years immediately following the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was drafted in Bordeaux for a family group that lived in the neighbouring village of Le Bouscat. Context indicates that the document lays out an agreement to distribute items from two parents to a group of siblings possibly a will. The document begins with a listing of the parties involved: Par devant Jean Dechamet son cet collegue notaries a Bordeaux soussignies Ont comparu Marie Raymond epouse assistee et autorisee de Guilbert Dupuis rouleur avec qui elle demeure commune de Bouscat pret Bordeaux d'un part; Anne Raymond fille majeure demeurant au meme lieu d'autre part; Pierre Raymond charpentier de haute futaie habitant egalement au Bouscat d'autre part; Pascal Raymond charpentier de haute futaie habitant au meme endrois d'autre part; et Bertrand Raymond aussi charpentier de haute futaie demeurent a Bordeaux place croix de Leguey No encore d'autre part. The document continues by indicating the source of the disbursement of goods as indicated in this excerpt: Lesquels voulant procéder au partage les biens immeubles qui leur ont ete delais les par Harteal Raymond et Marie Heynard leurs pere et mere. Translation: Which ones wanting to share the immovable property which has been delivered to them by Harteal Raymond and Marie Heynard their father and motherThe document then goes on to detail the various items and the terms under which they will be given to each person. The document ends with each person acknowledging their acceptance of the terms and then adding their signatures. For a historian this is an excellent example of a legal transaction that so many people would be involved in at some point in their lives. Dating from 1823 the document has 4 pages. They measure 11.5 inches by 8.25 inches. The pages are 100% complete. It is in good condition with some wear and discolouration along the edges. The document is completely handwritten and the handwriting though faint in places is legible. Original vernacular photograph archive of African American family c. 1940s. 21 silver gelatin photos ranging from 3.5 x 5 to 4.5 x 3 inches. 16 photo negatives some are copies of the prints. Photos show family members posing individually and in groups many in front of the same large white clapboard house with broad front porch a garden to its side. In one photo two women in Sunday dresses and hats one older one younger stand with linked arms the younger woman's eyes hidden behind sunglasses the older squinting into the sun with a rolled newspaper in one hand. Two images show the same woman in white 1940s bathing suit with sleeves and bloomers standing with her feet in the ocean a small boy playing nearby. In one image he points at the horizon in the next he crawls through the water. Group photo shows 12 subjects young men and women in suits and dresses the men with ties and hats one posing with a cigar hanging from his mouth smiling into the camera their faces bright and relaxed. Subjects ages range from early childhood through old age. The University of Virginia's Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library describes "Black joy" as "a phrase used by historians to highlight the positive aspects of Black history separate from its suffering. Representations of African Americans living lives at once ordinary and inspired both deeply personal and universal is an integral piece of any American history archive. unknown
1940203101940. African American Photography 22 large scale black and white silver gelatin photographs of an African American family in the 1940s. Bright green patterned cloth album covers 11.5" x 12.5". Photographs belong to the Curl family and opens with a large portrait of Mrs. Christina Curl "My beloved mother". It is unidentified which family member this album belonged to but a few different persons are captioned as "me" which indicates that the family sent various photographs to the original owner from various parts of the United States such as Chicago and Los Angeles. Several photographs show groups of Black Americans in formal wear attending clubs dinners and dances. A man identified as the senders brother is shown in two formal group photos one with his sister Gladys and her friends and another at "The Prairie View Dec. 23 1954 Dance." A large professional portrait shows a stylish African American woman with the inscription "With All My Love to a Sweet Sister-in-Law 1970." Two images show two different men in brand new cars one with a caption en verso "Hound-Day getting ready to cruise!" Three photographs show to be in Los Angeles from a newly wed couple with images of the wife smiling and leaning on a palm tree and in front of two California homes one dated 1948. Another two photographs of a different woman are shown one in front of the same house with caption en verso "Miss Los Angeles 1954. A photograph of the first woman named Gale is shown with her husband Earl at "New Club DeLisa -- Chicago" 1946. Opened in 1933 the club was the most prominent African American venue of the day until 1958. Happy wedding photos of a woman named Carrie and her husband are shown with a Caucasian priest. A photo of two Black men in suits are shown pushing a child in a stroller and some other children play near by in a suburban neighborhood. The woman Gale is shown in multiple photographs over the span of a few decades with different men indicating that this album may have belonged to her. The last photograph is of Gale and a young Black man dressed in 1950s formal wear in a well decorated mid-century home two later professional portraits show the couple together having aged indicating that this was the man she ended up marrying. This album is a shining example of a family that was able to herald their accomplishments and experiences during a harrowing yet radically progressive time for Black Americans. Photos are loosely placed under plastic sheets and are clean and crisp. Overall very good condition. unknown
