Book is in excellent condition; unread, appears new in every respect save a tiny bit of edge wear at spine ends, some fading. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no other blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. The glue in this perfect bound book is over 50 years old and is likely fragile.
8vo., First Edition; sewed as issued, wanting original wrappers (but binding wholly sound), a very good, bright, clean copy. First edition of Archbishop Benson's famous 'Lincoln Judgment', following the ecclesiastical trial of Edward King, Lord Bishop of Lincoln, charged with eight ritual offences carried out in the Diocese of Lincoln. One of the most important ecclesiastical trials relating to the Oxford Movement, the case delivered two fundamental judgements. First, a binding legal decision on certain disputed questions of ritual, and secondly that the jurisdiction of the archbishop of Canterbury alone is sufficient to try one of his suffrgan bishops. A rare survival.
