Dodd’s entry in the Oxford DNB by Michael Billington concludes with the assessment that he was ‘the greatest theatrical comic of his age and the last link with the hallowed days of music hall’. The two items are in good condition lightly aged. ONE: TLS 9 October 1957. 1p 4to. Good large signature ‘Ken Dodd’. The male recipient is not named. He apologises for the late reply to the recipient’s letter. ‘May I also thank you for the compliments paid to my performance on Television. / I am a Liverpudlian residing in Knotty Ash Liverpool. / I shall be at the Manchester Palace Theatre for Pantomime This Christmas if you are in the vicinity perhaps you would care to call at the Stage-Door where my Fiancee a Liverpool Nurse and myself will be pleased to meet you.’ The ‘Liverpool Nurse’ is Anita Boutin c.1932-1977 Dodd’s partner until her death. Publisher's stapled brown wrappers with black cover lettering and an image of a struggling soul on the front. Very nice condition. None recorded by OCLC.Josephine Brice largely forgotten today was quite a well known Christian medium in the early decades of the twentieth century. She was the founder of the Circle of Light and minister of the Deleware Avenue Chapel of the Circle of Light. All four of the publications precede her magnum opus The Descending Light 1922. On the rear cover of two of there are announcements for the upcoming The Descending Light. The New York Herald sent a delegation to investigate her claims and published their results. Colour-illustrated softcovers vivid wraparound Orientalist cover art of scene depicting bedouin camels & tents in the desert seated upon Oriental rugs minor shelfwear slight bumping to couple corners still VG bright copy including order blank in red & black w/ pictorial map on verso of Olson Rug railroad time deliveries. First edition of this lavishly illustrated and scarce Jazz Age flooring catalogue for the famed Chicago rug manufacturer filled with striking Orientalist inspired Persian carpets Middle Eastern Central Asian and East Asian patterns intended to brighten any Craftsman home. Found in 1874 by Walter E. Olson this beautiful catalogue includes a number of interior designs showing the rugs fitted into Arts & Crafts homes and Flapper Era homes with decor window treatments and furnishings. The Olson Rug Company was a pioneering recycling firm detailing how they used old carpets rugs and old clothing to produce velvety rugs which would rival in appearance and wearing high grade Wiltons and Axminsters. The Olson Company is perhaps best remembered for the Olson Park and Waterfall which was a popular local tourist attraction located outside the factory until sold to Marshall Field in 1965 which subsequently plowed the gardens under and created a parking lot. First Grosset Edition reprinting the 1935 Harcourt Brace original of this novel set against the backdrop of the waning years of the Jazz Age and the promiscuous experiences of Gloria Wondrous including her affair with Weston Liggett and assorted friends. Fair/No Jacket. undated. presumed first edition. appears to be from the 1930s. the red boards are rubbed and very marked especially the back.the rear board is very slightly warped. this is not very noticeable at all. however it is very discoloured. the book is from the british sailor's society ocean libraries department. there is a rather charming bookplate thus under the front board and a library form on the front end page. the book was never checked out. no other library marks or inscriptions. the binding is excellent.
