Though his greatest contributions were probably in the field of medical bibliography, his first love was Goethe. Samuel Naylor, the editor & translator of this edition, was a great friend of Goethe who was originally responsible for this version. He wrote: "The Low-German edition (Reinke de Vos). is that from which I have worked hovering. between translation and paraphrase." First issed in 1844, this particular edition is really quite scarce.
