From a review by Otfried Höffe: "Die Arbeit ist klar und überzeugend aufgebaut. Überdies ist sie sehr gut lesbar geschrieben: klar zupackend argumentativ immer wieder von erhellenden Bildern durchsetzt; und die Verbindung einer wohldurchdachten Interpretation und Argumentation mit einer neuartigen These führt zu einem philosophisch geradezu spannenden Text. . Hier findet eine hochentwickelte internationale Kantforschung einen grundlegend neuen Blick.". Hardcover. Near Fine - As New condition/No dust jacket. Library indications on the edges of the textblock and the front endpapers only. All other pages are clean and unmarked -- probably seldom if ever read. Bound in the original maroon cloth stamped in bright gold. From the publisher: "Up until now we have had little knowledge of what the state of unconsciousness was like from the patient's point of view. Surprisingly in a state considered void of human experiences Lawrence found that the events subjects reported were extraordinary. Her research in hospital units and in the literature reveals that more than 70% of the individuals who regain consciousness remember events during their unconscious period. They heard and understood conversations had inner dialogues recognized their emotions and went out of their bodies. As would be expected some of the patients' experiences are the now-recognized classic NDEs near-death experiences. The author also includes descriptions of related research from nursing medicine psychology and parapsychology. The phenomena described in the book are not easily explained by the paradigm of one discipline. It is the author's point of view that because the phenomena crosses the lines of many disciplines the answer to understanding and explaining the experiences can be obtained only by using theories and research methods from a variety of related disciplines. The integration of research from such varied disciplines brings a unique perspective to the chapters. Also included are suggestions for caregivers and families about what can be done for patients during their unconscious episode and after their recovery." . Hardcover. From the publisher: "The nature and importance of the controversial philosophy of behaviorism are viewed by its leading exponent." FRom GoodReads: "Burrhus Frederic Skinner was a highly influential American psychologist author inventor advocate for social reform and poet. He was the Edgar Pierce Professor of Psychology at Harvard University from 1958 until his retirement in 1974. He invented the operant conditioning chamber innovated his own philosophy of science called Radical Behaviorism and founded his own school of experimental research psychologythe experimental analysis of behavior. His analysis of human behavior culminated in his work Verbal Behavior which has recently seen enormous increase in interest experimentally and in applied settings. He discovered and advanced the rate of response as a dependent variable in psychological research. He invented the cumulative recorder to measure rate of responding as part of his highly influential work on schedules of reinforcement. In a recent survey Skinner was listed as the most influential psychologist of the 20th century. He was a prolific author publishing 21 books and 180 articles." GoodReads rating: 3.95 stars. From a 2012 review by Corey: "As a doctoral candidate in behavior analysis I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Skinner provides several gems throughout the text that I think I would have missed in my earlier days of studying radical behaviorism. In other words Skinner often says a lot in a few words. My favorite aspect of this book is Skinner's list of myths and misconceptions about behaviorism which he addresses throughout his writing. Unfortunately many of these myths and misconceptions are alive and well today. That being said I would not recommend this book to anyone as an introduction to behaviorism nor do I think this book alone will lead to a complete understanding of behaviorism. I think my appreciation of this book was fostered by years of studying behaviorism and I highly recommend it to anyone with a similar history.". First Edition so stated. Hardcover. Unfortunately this copy does not. However laid-in is a review request. The review slip is addressed to: "Book Review Editor Journal of Symbolic Logic." Church not only founded the Journal of Symbolic Logic but was an editor of its reviews section from 1936 until 1979. Illustrated with 200 action photographs. This copy has the bookplate of New York psychiatrist Dr. Dudley D. Schoenfeld a pioneer in the field of criminal profiling who was instrumental in solving The Crime of the Century. Just after Charles Lindbergh's baby was kidnapped and well before the arrest of Bruno Richard Hauptmann Dr. Schoenfeld was asked by the authorities to examine the ransom notes and other evidence. Dr. Schoenfeld was able to "construct" a profile of the person who committed the crime. While compilation of a psychological profile is common practice in criminal investigations today in 1932 it was ground-breaking. Dr. Schoenfeld conclusions that the ransom notes were likely written by a German man with a criminal past and that he was probably mechanically adept proved to be surprisingly accurate. . From the rear cover: "First Conquer Thyself: Socialization of violence and abuse is often highly structured through the Munchausen Complex. Munchausen Syndrome occurs when an individual harms themselves for attention and self-glorification. Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is when an individual harms another usually under their care. Attention and self-glorification are achieved through their victim's subsequent medical treatment. Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is a crime with a victim. Violence and abuse are often common in families passed down from one generation to the next and may be termed Transgenerational Munchausen Syndrome as these families expand and their habits are introduced into society. Munchausen Syndrome in Collective Transmission occurs when such practices become an acceptable part of society often eventuating into full acculturation. In this way societies attach themselves to self-glorification with various explanations of justification. A Mandated Report is required to be filed by health care legal social service and educational professionals who suspect child abuse as well as developers of film. As socialized beings we are often unaware why we think what we think and why we do what we do. Exploring beneath the surface we may discover we are not who we imagine we are. Are our subtle perversions and aberrations so different from those of the ancients or other cultures we label primitive Censorship is strong when one questions social norms folkways and rituals that address issues of identity. Internal interpersonal and professional conflicts arise. The author was under military orders not to discuss the subjects presented in this part's Mandated Report on child abuse to the social body for the last six years of his U.S. Navy career.".
